Yay, I finally got a job today! Well, I technically got it yesterday, but I got the formal invitation today. I'm going to be working for Career Builder doing internal technical support, getting about the same amount of money that I was getting at State Farm. *squee!*
This also means that I can finally relax here... since I moved to Chicago, I've been holding my breath. I didn't want to get too used to it, didn't want to believe that I actually live here. I didn't want to get my hopes up and then end up having to move back in with my parents. But now, I have a real job (enough to pay rent, whether Elaine finds one right away or not) and I can do fun things like go out to the club or go to derby bouts or even just buy Soul Calibur IV when it comes out. :)
Don't get me wrong, though, we've been having fun since we got here. There's a ton of free things to do here. We've gone to Millenium Park more than a couple of times, just to sit on the Great Lawn and listen to the music they play over the speakers (once we went for a free orchestral concert) and play games and have a picnic. It's also always fun to see Cloud Gate and the fountains while we're there... but I must have a billion pictures of them by now. I will never get tired of the skyline, either. But yes, back to free things. We've meandered around Navy Pier, seen a free movie (Transformers) at a park nearby that they showed on a giant projector, and we've been to the Lincoln Park Zoo three times already in the two months we've been here. I'll eventually elaborate on each of these awesome attractions individually, but the point is that you don't really have to have tons of money in order to enjoy yourself in Chicago. The museums even have free days (though we haven't been just yet) every week, and for me it's entertaining to just walk around downtown near the Sears Tower or Michigan Ave.
I know I'm sucking at posting pictures on Myspace, but I promise I will get to that shortly. Part of it was the aforementioned feeling of not wanting to get too comfortable... but since I have a job now, that's not really an issue. I will find time this evening to post them if I can! And for the LJ folk, I shall either post some in a cut or put up direct links to the Myspace ones. :)
As for other things going on in my life... LISA'S COMING TO VISIT THIS WEEKEND OMFGSQUEE!!!!!!111!!!!1!!1! Her and Mr. Jeremy are going to be crashing at my apartment, since it's way cheaper than a hotel and we have both a futon and a spare twin bed. I hope poor Jeremy doesn't die from the cats, but we're doing lots of cleaning before then, so it shouldn't be too bad. They're coming up for Wizard World this weekend, which I can actually afford to go to now! It shall be a great weekend, especially with Pridefest on Sunday. They can't stay for Pride, but Christina will be down there, and I'm sure it'll be way bigger than the one in Michigan, since it's in Boystown on Halsted, where they're so proud that the lightposts have rainbows on them year-round. :)
There's more stuff I've forgotten to mention, I'm sure, but Miss Elaine needs help cleaning so that we can make this place presentable for company tomorrow so I should go help.
